Our Royal Lineage
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession… (1 Peter 2:9 NIV).
We are royalty. We did nothing to earn or deserve this glorious position. Our royal status is ours because we were born into The King’s family. We are Kings Kids, children of God, a chosen people. We are Royals.
Let neither pride nor prejudice rise in our hearts. Instead, let confidence arise. Our confidence is in Jesus and in who we are in Him. God passed the Royal Spiritual Bloodline of Jesus directly to us. Thank God for godly parents and grandparents. However, our Royal Lineage came not from them; our Spiritual Lineage came from Jesus.
Suppose we had parents who were unbelievers or parents with specific dysfunctions. In that case, we need not worry about being tied to their dysfunction. Yes, we may need to pray and work through some things, but we find our spiritual DNA in Jesus Christ.
A Royal Lineage means much more than just overcoming sin. One of the devil’s greatest strategies against God’s people is to get us to spend much of our time trying to avoid and overcome sin. When this happens, we become inward-focused and stop being salt and light to the world. Please don’t get me wrong. Sin needs to be dealt with because it is a serious issue, but Jesus dealt with sin once and for all on the cross. Therefore, we should appropriate the finished work of Jesus into our lives and then love God, ourselves, and others.
When we embrace and experience our Royal Spiritual Lineage, it breaks the cycle of sin. It places our attention and efforts on doing what Jesus did. Our eyes turn outward instead of inward, and we are prepared to affect the world positively.
Are there times in your life when you become sin-conscious? Satan loves to use these times to condemn you and beat you down. After a few days, feeling down and discouraged gets old. Things change when you get honest with God, talk to Him about where you messed up, and then embrace His love and forgiveness. As you declare the blessings of God over your life, the weight lifts, and peace and joy return. Your royal position in His family is a primary source to draw strength and encouragement. As you appropriate the finished work of Jesus and declare your Royal standing in His family, you will walk in His victory once again.
The enemy has no weapon against believers who humbly declare who they are in Christ. The enemy’s oppressive hand lifts and God’s joy and peace fills the soul. They get up, brush themselves off, and get back in the game. As they take their stand against the spiritual forces of darkness, they can ask their Father in Heaven to dispatch His warring angels to deal with the enemy forces trying to take them out.
As Royals, you and I have special privileges and responsibilities. The privileges include but are not limited to, sharing in God’s character, righteousness, and love. The responsibilities include but are not limited to letting our light shine, loving people, and standing in the gap for others.
It renders the enemy powerless when we exercise the Royal Authority given to us by God. Protection and the ability to become all God ordained us to happen when we exercise our Royal Priest roles. It blesses humanity when God’s will and purposes advance. This occurs when we position ourselves as a conduit through which God’s Royal Authority flows. It is then that we prosper in the things of God.
